We’ll roll into 2022 with a production of “No Exit” by Jean-Paul Sartre, translated by Paul Bowles, in the Reilly Arts Center’s newly constructed Black Box Theater. One of the most studied existentialist plays, No Exit tells the tale of three people locked up together for eternity in one hideous room in Hell. The windows are bricked up, there are no mirrors, the lights can never be turned off, and there is no exit. This torture is not of fire and brimstone, but of the burning humiliation of each soul as it is stripped of its secrecy and dark deeds are mercilessly exposed.
