Ever wondered what’s going through a conductor’s head before the downbeat? Here’s your chance to ask him, signature cocktail in hand.

Join Maestro Matthew Wardell in the intimate Midgett Black Box for a lively evening before each featured Ocala Symphony program. The open bar is flowing, and every session has its own signature drink inspired by the music. Matt takes you behind the scenes: the surprising stories behind the composers, the history that shaped each piece, and exactly what to listen for when the orchestra takes the stage. You’ll hear the music too, through recordings and often live performers. And along the way, you might meet a guest conductor, a featured soloist, or members of the band you’re about to see on stage. Then it’s your turn. Bring your questions, your curiosity, and a friend or two.

This season’s sessions:

Pictures at an Exhibition takes you on a stroll through a gallery of musical paintings.

Disney’s Aladdin in Concert reveals how an orchestra brings a beloved film to life, live and in sync.

Fate Awakens pairs Beethoven’s Fifth, whose four opening notes are the most famous in music history, with Carlos Simon’s electrifying WAKE UP!

Steeln’ Peaches: An Allman Brothers Symphonic Experience explores what happens when Southern rock meets a full symphony orchestra.

Famous Last Words closes the season with farewells: Tchaikovsky’s final symphony, the “Pathétique,” Strauss’s radiant Four Last Songs, and the overture to Mozart’s The Magic Flute, from the last year of his life.

Each session runs about an hour and change. Admission is free, and you don’t need a concert ticket to attend. But fair warning: by the end of the evening, you’ll want one.
