Immerse yourself in an evening of American orchestral splendor! Led by the Ocala Symphony’s Principal Guest Conductor, Raymond Chobaz, the performance begins with Charles Tomlinson Griffes’ The Pleasure-Dome of Kubla-Khan, a shimmering, exotic tone poem inspired by Coleridge’s mystical poetry. Next, celebrated violinist Adelya Nartadjieva takes the stage for Samuel Barber’s Violin Concerto, Op. 14. From its lyrical opening to its fiery finale, this American masterpiece showcases virtuosic brilliance and heartfelt expression. After intermission, the program concludes with Howard Hanson’s Symphony No. 2, “Romantic”. A sweeping and richly melodic work, this American symphony’s lush textures and triumphant themes are a heartfelt tribute to the enduring power of the human spirit. Soloist, violin
Adelya is an award-winning Uzbek-American violinist recognized for her captivating stage presence and profound musical connection with audiences around the world. She is currently the Concertmaster of the Jacksonville Symphony and has appeared on distinguished stages including Carnegie Hall in New York, the Elbphilharmonie in Hamburg, Wigmore Hall in London, the Seoul Arts Center, and Dvořák Hall in Prague. She most frequently performs at Jacoby Symphony Hall in Jacksonville—her home, and one of the few concert halls in Florida built specifically for classical music.
Her artistry has been shaped by a rich and diverse education and by years of collaboration with versatile musicians from around the world. She graduated with First Class Honors from the Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music at the National University of Singapore under Qian Zhou, earned her master’s degree from the Yale School of Music with Hyo Kang, and completed a highly selective post-graduate orchestral study program at the Manhattan School of Music under Glenn Dicterow and Lisa Kim. She was also a fellow of Carnegie Hall’s Ensemble Connect, a two-year fellowship program for exceptional young professional musicians.
Adelya has performed at festivals including Music@Menlo, Yellow Barn, Bravo! Vail, and the Four Seasons Chamber Music Festival. She has performed with artists including Leon Fleisher, Wu Han, David Finckel, and the Emerson String Quartet. She is a core member of the internationally acclaimed ensemble Decoda and frequently appears as a guest musician with the Orpheus Chamber Orchestra and the New York Philharmonic. She has toured internationally with Sejong Soloists and Orpheus Chamber Orchestra.
She was awarded first prize at the Woolsey Concerto Competition at Yale and was also a prizewinner in the Gershwin International Competition. Additional honors include the Broadus Erle Prize at Yale and the Rachel Barton Pine Foundation education grant. Adelya was also a featured violinist on the Experiential Orchestra’s GRAMMY-winning recording of Dame Ethel Smyth’s The Prison.
She is the co-artistic director of Chime for Children, an organization she and Yoonah Kim co-founded. Chime for Children and Adelya were featured in the award-winning documentary The Power of Small. Through this work and beyond, Adelya continues to advocate for music education and access for young people.
