Nesto’s Jazz Quartet

Nesto’s Jazz is led by bassist, percussionist and bandleader, David Ernesto (Nesto) Vanegas. Ranging from a small trio to a larger percussion ensemble, Nesto’s Jazz modernizes the traditions of North and South American dance styles.

In this fusion of world rhythms and American jazz, listeners can experience a dense influence of hard bop, bebop, samba, baião, bossa nova, and Caribbean grooves. This group has blended an original sound that expands upon the legacies of Tito Puente, Charles Mingus, Cal Tjader and Chick Corea.

The current lineup of musicians includes Vanegas on bass, Matthew Biggers on piano, and fellow percussionists, Paul Terry on drum kit, and Justin Steger on vibraphone.

Vanegas completed his Master’s degree in Music and Music Education at Teachers College, Columbia University in 2019, and he is currently an instructor of music at Seminole State College of Florida.
