Karla Mejias
She started studying Violin at an early age with Mrs. Sonnhild Kitts. She is an alumnus of Eastside High School, where she graduated as part of the International Baccalaureate (IB) program. She then continued her studies at the Mozarteum Caracas School of Music, where she has taken courses in music theory and violin performance. Karla currently studies with former Moscow Conservatory Faculty member, Levon Ambartsumian, and is attending under his tutelage at the Hugh Hodgson School of Music (University of Georgia Athens). Karla formerly attended the Lynn Conservatory, where she was selected to play in Dean’s Choice Awards, as well as placed on the Dean’s List.
Karla has traveled extensively with her violin. She participated in the Periman Music Program, where she played with Itzhak Perlman and the Periman Orchestra. Karla has also participated in several festivals such as the Charleston International Music School taking master classes with violinist Isaac Malkin;
Philadelphia International Music Festival, studying with Philip Kates; Lancut Music Festival, Poland, where she was a member of Sergey Kravchenco’s violin studio; Indiana University Summer String Academy; the 16th and 20th Internationale Sommerakademie für Kammermusikauf in Zwingenberg, Germany under the tutelage of Prof. Jacek Klimkiewicz; Bowdoin International Music Festival with Mikhail Kopelman; the Sphinx Solo Performance Academy at Curtis Conservatory with Jannina Norpoth and at the Juilliard School of Music with Suliman Tekalli; and attending the 2024 Accademia Musicale Chigiana with Ilya Gringolts. Karla has taken private lessons with Peter Zazofsky, Isaac Malkin, Virginie Robillard, Meesun Hong Coleman, and Ruben Camacho.
Karla has participated in several violin competitions including the Dorothy Reaves String Award- Foundation for the Promotion of Music where she was 1st Place winner, and the FSTA Concerto Competition Intermediate String where she placed 2nd, and is the Winner of the 2019 David Hubbell Concerto Competition.
